Tech Trek is a week-long science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) camp for eighth-grade girls. This year, with help from corporate sponsorships and generous member donations, the Bakersfield branch is proud to send eight local girls to camp at CSU Fresno where campers engage in hands-on experiments and field trips while getting to know other girls who think science and math are fun.
This year, camp was staffed by enthusiastic women from all walks of life. Several teachers, scientists, scholars, and engineers set aside a week of their lives in order to provide the best camp experience possible to our campers.
While at camp, students live in the dorms, eat in the cateferia, participate in hands-on labs, attend classes, and grow their confidence as they meet other like-minded girls from around the Central Valley.
How Are Campers Selected?
Local seventh-grade math and science teachers nominate campers in January. The selection process includes an essay and personal interview. The local branch pays for each camper's fee for room, board, and most educational materials. Each camper and/or her family is responsible for a $75 materials fee.
